GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A community-supported renovation kicked off in Green Bay Monday.
West High School held a ground breaking ceremony for its project to renovate Del Marcelle Stadium.
The project, which was supported by the voters in the November 2022 referendum, includes new synthetic turf, a practice field, restrooms, concession stands, grandstand, press box, scoreboard, storage shed, sound system, and lighting.
Principal Dexter McNabb says this will level the playing field for student-athletes.
“The voters have spoken and now we have in place what these kids at West High School deserve right here. Every kid, every student athlete deserves the right to be able to compete, to be able to be a part of something special. This right here, is something special. I get very passionate when I talk about these kids here at West High School,” McNabb said, “And I’ve seen these kids fight through rain, mud, uneven fields to try to compete like their counterparts. We can now compete like our counterparts.”
Sophomore Mikiah Rogina, who is in band and track, says the improvements will enhance school pride.
Renovations are expected to be complete for fall sports.
