WOOD COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Human remains found in Port Edwards belong to a Waupaca-area man, Paul Christian, who was missing for several years – and the case is being investigated as a homicide, according to the Wood Co. Sheriff’s Dept.
Numerous skeletal remains were recovered from the Wisconsin River near the dam in Port Edwards, starting in July 2022. DNA tests matched the remains to Christian.
“The Wood County Sheriff’s Department met with family and confirmed that this individual has not been seen in several years,” a news release states. “At this time, it is not known why Paul would have been in Wood County, Wisconsin.”
Sheriff Shawn Becker has confirmed they are investigating the death as a homicide. He said there was evidence of blunt force trauma to the skull.
No cause of death was provided, and the case remains under investigation.
Christian would now be 49 years old, the department said.
