ALLOUEZ, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Congressman Mike Gallagher recognized two local citizens on Friday for their work to protect Northeast Wisconsin’s freshwater resources and advance clean water initiatives.
Mike Grimm and Tom Sigmund, both highly respected in their fields, were honored during a ceremony at Green Isle Park in Allouez.
Grimm is a conservation oncologist retiring from The Nature Conservancy, where he founded the “Door Peninsula Project” and led a number of other conservation projects.
Sigmund recently ended his service as president of the National Association of Clean Water Agencies.
At the event, Rep. Gallagher presented both men with entries he submitted to the Congressional Record on behalf of their exceptional work and leadership within the Northeast Wisconsin community.
“I’ve known Mike and Tom since my first year in the House [of Representatives] and I’m thankful for their vision and their unfailing commitment to improving and safeguarding the waterways in our corner of Wisconsin that then find their way into Lake Michigan,” Rep. Gallagher said during the ceremony.
Grimm said that while he’s grateful for the recognition, conservation work is a team effort and there are many other individuals and groups who should be honored as well.
“The willingness to work together, stretch ourselves, put our resources out there to better the landscape and the waters, it’s a necessary task,” Grimm said. “I really appreciate the honor here today, but it’s an accolade that should go to many of our partners as well.”
