There will be a first time winner of the Women’s World Cup. England defeated Australia 3-1 in the second semifinal today in New Zealand to reach the title match. England took a 1-0 lead into the half and were up 2-1 late when the Matildas had two quality chances miss. A transition goal in the closing minutes clinched it for England which advances to face Spain, an earlier 2-1 winner over Sweden for the globe’s biggest prize in soccer. Australia and Sweden, which knocked out the heavily favored U.S. Women’s national team in the round of 16, play for third place on Saturday. The 2023 World Cup Final is now set for Sunday.
