OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) — The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is acknowledging the upcoming Pyrotechnics Guild International annual convention being held at the Sunnyview Expo Center.
Winnebago County Sheriff John Matz says he’s heard a lot of reactions to the upcoming convention, which is being held August 12-18.
“I actually had a voicemail forwarded to me from the County Executive’s office where a gentleman was so upset he was threatening my safety,” said Sheriff Matz. “But that happens, we’re in law enforcement.”
Matz said the Sheriff’s office was not involved whatsoever in the planning or permitting of the event, but that the proper permits have been obtained by the company to have the event.
Firework displays will occur nightly through 1 a.m.
“I understand people’s frustrations that are living close to this event,” said Matz. “If you call 911 or call the communications center complaining about the noise, there’s nothing we can do from a law enforcement perspective because it has a legal permit.”
Any calls regarding complaints on the event should be directed to Winnebago County Executive, Jon Doemel, at 920-232-3450.
