HOWARD, WI (WTAQ) — The Weyers-Hilliard Branch of the Brown County Library in Howard is hosting an opportunity to learn more about becoming a foster parent.
Brown County Health and Human Services will give a general presentation about foster care on Tuesday, July 18 at 5:30 p.m. Foster care recruiter, Courtney Thorne, says they’ll share more about the ins and outs of becoming a foster parent.
“We do have an application which includes a background check, and we do require finger printing,” said Thorne. “Then you would meet with a licenser and go through about 4-5 home visits.”
Thorne says the fingerprinting is done through the Brown County Sheriff’s Office and is a relatively quick process.
Additionally, tools are given to foster parents through a pre-placement training to help them succeed.
Currently in Brown County, those facing the biggest need for foster placement are girls ages 9-12 and sibling groups.
Coming to the informational session doesn’t mean you’re signing up to be a foster parent, just that you want to learn more.
