Just being honest…I’d kill for a darkness retreat right about now. That’s a dream come true for me. I mean, I’d like my wife and two children to be there with me, so it’s not really a true isolation retreat. And I guess I’d like to mix in some sunsets and some fishing and some hammock time and some board games, so it’s not really a true darkness retreat, either. So I guess I’d just kill for a vacation on Loon Lake with my family. LOL Anyway…I think everybody needs to back off the “darkness retreat” angle of this Aaron Rodgers story. This is the fundamental issue with where we’re at in our social existence: everybody seems to think it’s not only their right, but their obligation to weigh in on someone else’s life with a definitive opinion. Many have forgotten that possessing the right to an opinion doesn’t make their opinion right. So just stop. Aaron Rodgers wants to disappear for a spell to contemplate his life. So what? How does that affect you? I think it’s a little weird, like a lot of folks, but I’ve never been on a darkness retreat, and it’s not my life. He likely believes my approach to daily existence could benefit from a reexamination, too. Whatever. His opinion of my life matters the same as mine of his – not one bit. I don’t think a darkness retreat is an issue at all, but I do have an issue with what might result from this particular darkness retreat.
Here’s where I believe (very strongly) that Aaron deserves every bit of ire from every single one of us:
Aaron Rodgers is the spouse who demands respect and commitment from his wife – after all he’s done for her, it’s not too much to ask, is it? It’s not too much to ask her to honor him and be faithful, is it? He mandates fidelity and commitment, but sure doesn’t miss an amateur night at the strip club with his buddies, does he? He sure doesn’t mind when the cart girl winks at him, does he?
We are less than one year removed from the March 2022 recommitment ceremony between #12 and the Green Bay Packers – a commitment that Aaron demanded; a commitment that he argued he deserved after years of service and results produced; a commitment he knew he already had secured in the court of public opinion, which he used as leverage at 1265. You got everything you asked for, Aaron. You got the years. You got the dollars. You got the warm fuzzies that come with feeling valued. You got a historic commitment from the team. And less than one year later, you need a darkness retreat to contemplate if you want to honor the commitment YOU demanded and secured? Get outta here with that noise!
