GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — There will be stepped up security at the 38th annual Prevea Green Bay Holiday Parade on Saturday.
Green Bay Police say it’s a reaction to the deadly Waukesha Christmas Parade attack that killed six and injured 62.
“We’re going to be staffing all of the intersections and setting up vehicle barriers at every intersection to prevent something like what happened in Waukesha,” Green Bay Police Lt. Tom Buchmann told WTAQ.
Those barriers are capable of stopping vehicles as large as a semi truck.
The Parade kicks off at 10 in the morning. A number of streets will be closed in the downtown area early.
Those driving in the area can expect the following street and ramp closures the morning of:
- Madison St. exit/off-ramp east of E. Mason St.: Closure at 6:00 a.m.
- ALL streets south of E. Walnut St. and west of S. Monroe St.: Closure at 6:30 a.m.
- NEW for 2022: Closure of S. Madison St. for bus and large vehicle parking of approved parade participants from select groups.
- E. Walnut St. and Cherry St. from Washington St. to Jefferson St.: Closure at 9:30 a.m.
Buchmann urges attendees to keep and eye out, and if they see something, say something.
