DE PERE, WI (WTAQ) — The Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay rang in the holiday season on Thursday at the Christmas Campaign Kickoff at Piggly Wiggly in De Pere. This is the 131st campaign for the Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay, and the efforts that take place around the holiday season fund about 1/3 of the organization’s budget.
“The money that goes in Green Bay, stays in Green Bay.” said Major Matthew O’Neil, the Greater Green Bay Area Coordinator for the Salvation Army. “It helps out not only at Christmas, but all year round.”
De Pere Mayor, James Boyd was out ringing bells on Thursday morning. He said that De Pere is no different from other communities in that there are many people in need. Similarly, Green Bay Police Chief, Chris Davis, noted that police see first-hand the need that exists in the De Pere community for basic things like food and shelter.
This year, the Christmas Campaign goal is $1,335,000.
