– “Tupac” came from the 18th-century Peruvian revolutionary Túpac Amaru II, whose name meant Shining Serpent. Túpac Amaru II led the largest rebellion in Spanish Colonial history. Though the indigenous uprising was unsuccessful and he was executed as a consequence, the revolutionary became a mythical figure in the Peruvian struggle for independence, as well as an inspiration to causes in Spanish America and beyond.
His last name Shakur means “Thankful,” in Arabic.

– After many successful albums Tupac was asked to attend a Mike Tyson fight on September 7, 1996 in Las Vegas. After the fight (which Tyson won), Tupac and Marion “Suge” Knight (owner of Death Row records) were cruising on the Las Vegas strip when Tupac was shot 5 times in a drive by shooting. Six days later he was taken off life support and pronounced dead. To this day, many still believe that 2 Pac faked his own death.
