NEW HOLSTEIN, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A food pantry is going up in Calumet County to address the need for those in rural communities.
Holyland Food Pantry broke ground Monday on a new 3,500 square-foot food pantry on Kiel Road in New Holstein.
The pantry is being built thanks to various grants and other donations.
One volunteer says a new facility will be a major upgrade from their current location
“It’s a two-story building and so we don’t have a lot of room to store everything. We’re going constantly up and down the stairs for our storage and so, having everything on one floor will be greatly appreciated for both our clients and our volunteers,” said volunteer, Dave Nickel.
Nickel says the hope is to have the pantry open up by late fall to be able to serve clients by Thanksgiving.
