OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Sturgeon spearers nabbed a total of 285 fish on the second day of the Winnebago system spearing season.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says 190 were taken on Lake Winnebago and 95 on upriver lakes Poygan, Winneconne and Butte des Morts on Sunday.
The upriver lakes season is likely to close today or tomorrow, with spearers only three adult females away from hitting the 90% harvest cap trigger.
On Lake Winnebago, the closest number to the harvest cap trigger is 228 juvenile females.
The Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources says 431 total fish were harvested in the system on Saturday.
Of those, 197 were harvested in the Upriver Lakes (Butte des Morts, Poygan and Winneconne), and 234 were speared on Lake Winnebago.
