Alvin Kamara: the most recent pro athlete who should consider logging more listening hours to the “Murphy in the Morning Show” on “The Big One” – 101 WIXX.
If you listen regularly, you’ve undoubtedly heard me discuss my “Big 3” theory. It is a working philosophy that all professional athletes would be wise to avoid each of the following:
- Strip clubs / “Late Night” clubs
- Motorcycles
- Pick-up basketball games.
It is a model developed as the result of countless occasions in which participation in one (or multiple) of these scenarios has produced a negative consequence for the athlete. The weight of my argument stems
not necessarily in the glaring number of incidents over the years; rather in the catastrophic nature of the few reported incidents.
Basically, I’m arguing that though not every scenario produces a negative, there is virtually nothing positive that can result from dipping one’s athletic toe into these waters. The risk far outweighs any perceived reward. Once retired, you can do whatever you want…but while you are playing for multi-million dollar, set-for-life contracts, put these 3 on the back burner of life.
I could make a really strong argument for steering clear of one of these at any time in life, but whatever…I’m not your dad. If you want to play basketball with your friends on a Wednesday night, who am I to stop you? Hey OOO! That’s a good one!
One of these days I’m going to start charging for this advice…
