NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The current Neenah High School building will change only one word of its name when it becomes a middle school.
The school board voted this week to name the new school Neenah Middle School. The name was chosen from among nearly 200 suggestions. A committee chose 20 semifinalists, and current middle schoolers narrowed the list to five. Neenah Middle School received 51.8% of the nearly 1,900 votes cast in a January survey.
When the new Neenah High School opens in fall of 2023, the current high school will transform into a middle school for grades 5-8. Shattuck Middle School will close and Horace Mann Middle School will become an elementary school. The change is planned for the 2023-24 school year. It is part of a $115 million referendum voters approved in 2020.
Renovations at the current high school building are scheduled to begin in May.
