APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A man convicted in a fatal shooting almost exactly a year ago at the Fox River Mall will spend the next 40 year of his life in prison.
Dezman Ellis, 18, shot and killed Jovanni Frausto, 19, during a confrontation at the mall in Grand Chute. Investigators say the two were arguing over a girlfriend when the then-17-year-old Ellis threatened to “shoot this place up” before pulling out a handgun, killing Frausto and injuring a bystander.
Immediately following the sentence, a fight broke out between two parties in the courtroom, although it isn’t clear who participated.
Ellis was arrested days later in Des Moines, Iowa and charged with first-degree intentional homicide.
In November Ellis pleaded guilty to amended charges including second-degree intentional homicide and first-degree recklessly endangering safety.
