OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A man who attacked his ex-girlfriend was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Joel Rew, 28, was also placed on extended supervision for 15 years at Monday’s hearing by Winnebago County Judge Daniel Bissett, court records show.
The 20-year sentence was specifically for the conviction on a count of mayhem, but Rew was also convicted of five other counts, including recklessly endangering safety, false imprisonment, and substantial battery.
The incident happened July 1, 2020 in Menasha. Rew and the victim argued. Rew kicked her repeatedly with steel-toed boots, cut her hair and back, tried to strangle her with an extension cord, and used curtain rod like a tourniquet on her hands. He also sexually assault her, the complaint states.
The woman went to a neighbor’s house for help, according to the complaint.
