APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The City of Appleton has found its next health officer.
The city’s common council on Wednesday approved the hire of Dr. Charles “Chuck” Sepers.
“In addition to his impressive credentials and experience, it was the way Dr. Sepers connected with each person he interacted with during his visit to Appleton as part of the interview process that set him apart,” Appleton Mayor Jake Woodford said in a news release. “He seeks to understand by listening, asking questions, and connecting at a human level.”
Sepers most recently served as a chief public health officer/health director for a health department department in Nebraska. His experience includes addressing childhood obesity, improving physical activity and healthy food access among the Hispanic/Latinx population and implementing health-in-all policies, according to the release.
”I am excited to build upon the great work already going on in Appleton beyond addressing the COVID-19 pandemic,” Sepers said in the release. “Renewed focus on the City’s already existing health-in-all policy ordinance, addressing issues related to health equity, and expanding efforts related to health promotion are all areas in which I am eager to make an impact. As we look ahead, accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board is an area we are eager to pursue.”
Sepers’ first day as health officer will be February 14th.
