If you’re tired today, using your phone in bed last night might have something to do with it. 78% of Americans now admit to using their phone right up until the moment they’re ready to go to sleep.
A lot of that time is spent on social media.
So a site called SleepJunkie.com wanted to see which apps mess with our sleep the most . . . not WHILE using them, but AFTER using them.
They wanted to see how long it took to fall asleep after using different social media apps. And the worst offender was . . . TikTok.
They assigned people specific apps to use in bed, and had them wear smart watches to track when they fell asleep.
TikTok users took the longest . . . an average of 1 hour and 7 minutes to fall asleep. That’s compared to 25 minutes for people who didn’t use their phone in bed. And TikTokers also got less REM sleep than anyone else.
Instagram was next at 58 minutes. Then Snapchat, 56 minutes . . . Twitter, 50 minutes . . . and Facebook in fifth place at 45 minutes.
The rest of the top ten are Tumblr, 39 minutes . . . Pinterest, 38 minutes . . . Reddit, 35 minutes . . . WhatsApp, 34 minutes . . . and YouTube, 32 minutes.
