OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Human remains discovered more than six years ago in Winnebago County have now been identified.
Sheriff’s officials say the remains of Roland D. Klug, of Oshkosh, were found on April 29, 2015 near railroad tracks on County Highway GG in the Town of Vinland. The cause of death was not released.
A private DNA laboratory out of Texas largely assisted in the identification of the remains, according to sheriff’s officials. Biological material was sent to the lab, which used the profile to search for distant relatives. A potential genealogy link allowed investigators to contact the family, which resulted in the confirmation of the identity.
Klug was born in 1949 and served in the Vietnam War. He was originally from the Waupun area.
