BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The 2022 budget proposal for Brown County was introduced to members of the board on Friday afternoon.
County executive Troy Streckenbach’s budget for the upcoming year is roughly $366.5 million.
“To the general tax payer, we were able to save a ton of money,” said Streckenbach.
Streckenbach spoke about a $0.26 tax cut to the county mill rate from $3.98, to $3.72. That would put it at its lowest mark since 1984.
“It’s a very complicated 22 municipality formula that ultimately dictates if someone’s going to get some less, some more, or some right at 26 cents. But on average, if you take it, it’s right at 26 cents.”
Friday afternoon was the first time board members were able to take a look at the 2022 budget proposal. One member that we caught up with is happy with some new additions.
Amanda Chu says with low employment numbers across the nation in many industries due to COVID-19, they’re better equipped to handle the worker shortage in the future.
“Looking ahead I think now we know how to plan a little bit better for the employment pinch. You know we have a lot more vacancies and all of that is pandemic related. There aren’t specific COVID-19 budget items, but it’s an ever looming and ever present in different facets of the budget,”
County committees will start reviewing the budget next week.
