MISHICOT, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Students at Mishicot High School won’t be returning to the classroom until October 11th at the earliest.
Officials say more than 28-percent of the student body is out sick, which prompted the decision to switch to virtual learning.
The school district sent a letter to parents explaining their reasoning behind what they’re calling a very tough decision. For parent Carla Halborson, she’s supportive.
“I can’t imagine if my daughter were to come home and she was COVID positive.”
Mishicot School District does not have a mask mandate in place at this time, which is something Manitowoc County Public Health Officer Stephanie Lambert says should be considered.
“A study just came out of CDC last week showing that schools with universal masking from the onset had 3 and a half times less transmission than those without.”
And that might be the case. Discussion on a school district mask policy is on the agenda for tonight’s school board meeting.
