APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Students in the Appleton Area School District won’t be required to wear face masks while in school.
The district’s board of education made the decision Monday night while voting on COVID-19 protocols for the 2021-22 school year.
While they are not required, masks are recommended for all students and staff.
“I think with any change involving students, it’s a matter of awareness, building awareness, giving some lead time,” Appleton Area School District Superintendent Judy Baseman said. “You know, making sure parents are aware of the why, make sure our staff understand the why, and our students.”
Masks will still be provided to students if they ask for them.
Hand hygiene stations and disinfecting wipes will also continue to be available.
