ONEIDA RESERVATION (WTAQ) — Oneida Nation Casino will offer sports betting at their Ashwaubenon Casino starting this fall.
That announcement made by Chairman Tehassi Hill on Thursday morning.
The betting will initially be offered near the sports bar.
It’s being made possible by a amendment in the compact between the nation and the State of Wisconsin. That amendment was signed by Hill and Governor Tony Evers on Thursday.
“There is a large illegal sports wagering market,” said Oneida Nation Vice Chair Brandon Yellowbird-Stevens. “We are trying to drive to the illegal traffic to the legal, well-regulated venue that tribe will provide.”
The compact still needs to be approved by the US Department of the Interior, which manages Native American affairs.
