GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – June is off to a blazing start in the Green Bay area.
“We’ve been roughly 10 to 15 degrees above normal the last 5 to 7 days here for northeast Wisconsin…The first nine days, our average temperature has been 75.8 degrees, which is the warmest start all time for the month of June,” said Scott Cultice with the National Weather Service. “So far, we’ve had five 90-plus degree days. So that’s probably in record territory too, for the first couple weeks of June.”
That record heat has a lot of people looking for solutions to cool down. But it also has them asking when the temperature, and the sticky humidity, might begin to fade.
“Cool off a little on Saturday, maybe we’ll lose the humidity on Sunday, then the cooler weather with less on the dew points and the temperatures probably on Monday,” Cultice predicted.
The heat isn’t the only thing out of the ordinary. There has also been a lack of rain in the area so far this year, which could lead to further issues with crops. The area has only seen 7.11 inches of rain this year, compared to the normal level of about 12.17 inches.
“We could definitely use the rain. By comparison, this time last year, we had over almost 16 inches of rain. So we’re nine inches less than at this time last year,” Cultice said. “We are in a lower tier drought situation for northeast Wisconsin. I think things are a little more severe as you head south through Southeastern Wisconsin.”
