GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An event was held in downtown Green Bay on Saturday to influence African Americans to get a COVID-19 vaccine.
The YWCA teamed up with Prevea and African Heritage Inc. to give shots and have a fun time while doing it.
The afternoon celebration featured live music, food, and gifts for those who attended.
Organizers say a little fun and education can go a long way.
“It is very comforting to have someone like you, that looks like you, shares your historical experience, to be able to alleviate any fears,” said Sabrina Robins, a co-chair of the event.
According to state health data, 20.8% of the state’s black population has received at least one dose of vaccine. That compares to 41.4% of white people in the state, and 27.1% percent of Hispanics.
