GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Wednesday Farmers’ Market on Broadway Street in Green Bay is coming back.
It’s coming back to the right place, too: Broadway Street. Last year it relocated to Liecht Park and downsized significantly due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Brian Johnson is the executive director of On Broadway, he says returning is a big deal.
“For us to be able to get this back to Broadway, it’s just critically important for the vendors and the small businesses that benefit,” Johnson told WTAQ. “We’re going to do everything we can to get it set up properly and safely.”
Safety precautions will remain in place at least to some degree. Vendors, at minimum, will likely have to wear masks.
Of interest, however, is that they have not yet decided on COVID-19 protocols. Johnson says that’s because they’re still a few months out, and by the time the market gets started on May 26th–their opening day–mask mandates may no longer be in force statewide, and federal and state health recommendations may have changed.
“Community events like this are often times looked to in order to restore trust in public spaces,” Johnson said. “We’re excited to play a role in that, and part of that means taking marginal safety precautions.”
Vaccination against COVID-19 is expected to be widely available to anyone who wants it after May 1st.
It will be held every Wednesday through September 29th. Hours are 3-8 p.m. through Labor Day and 3-7 p.m. after Labor Day.
The deadline for vendors to apply for a booth is the end of the day Friday.
