(UW ATHLETICS) – The Wisconsin men’s hockey team (4-5-0, 4-3-0-0-1-0 Big Ten) attempted a comeback Thursday evening in the series opener against Ohio State (2-3-0, 123-0-0-1-0 Big Ten), but ultimately fell short, 4-2.
Ohio State came out strong and took a generous lead in the first, notching four goals for a 4-0 scoreboard at the end of the first.
The second period was catch up as the Badgers stormed the ice, earning back-to-back goals to get back into the game.
Senior Jason Dhooghe back-handed his first goal of the season to put UW on the board, finishing a breakaway and a pass by freshman Mathieu De St. Phalle at 6:19.
Knocking in his own rebound a minute later, sophomore Cole Caufield notched another for the Badgers off a play with senior Linus Weissbach.
It was a scoreless third though despite Wisconsin’s attempt to even it up leaving the final at 4-2.

This was Jason Dhooghe’s second career goal. He netted his first during his 2017-18 debut season in a home game against North Dakota o Nov. 4, 2017.

Linus Weissbach leads the Badgers with six assists and 11 points.

UW is tied in the all-time series against Ohio State at 20-20-4.
