GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The Minnesota Vikings invaded Lambeau Field and left with a 28-22 win over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. The Vikings move to 2-5, the Packers fall to 5-2 on the season.
A competitive first half ended in a 14-14 tie, with just five total possessions between both teams. Quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Kirk Cousins combined for a 90% completion percentage for the half.
Things fell apart for the Packers in the 3rd quarter, as they quickly fell behind 28-14. The Green and Gold made a strong comeback effort in the 4th quarter, but a final drive with just seconds left on the clock resulted with Aaron Rodgers having the ball stripped while pulling back to fire another pass downfield. A review showed it was, in fact, a fumble – not an incomplete pass. The Vikings recovered the ball to end the game.
Rodgers ended the game 27/41 with 293 yards and three touchdowns through the air. Davante Adams caught seven passes for 53 yards and all three of those scores.
But that just wasn’t enough to counter the monster game for Vikings running back Dalvin Cook. Cook was listed as questionable with a groin injury ahead of the game, but you wouldn’t know it by watching on Sunday. Cook was seemingly unstoppable, racking up 163 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground on 30 carries – along with a pair of catches for 63 yards and another touchdown.
Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins ended the game 11/14 with 160 yards and one touchdown pass.
The Packers still hold the NFC North division lead, after the Chicago Bears fell to the New Orleans Saints in overtime on Sunday. The Packers hope to bounce back and get a win on the west coast next week in San Francisco. The Packers lost every game they played in the state of California last season.
