GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – At the request of prosecutors and the defense attorney, the trial for James Prokopovitz for allegedly killing his wife was postponed today (Friday) due to the COVID-19 pandemic and orders limiting in-person court hearings.
Victoria Prokopovitz disappeared in 2013. James Prokopovitz was charged with her murder in May 2019, even though her body has never been found.
His trial was scheduled to begin with jury selection October 9th. However, earlier this week court officials decreed that in-person court appearances had to be suspended until at least October 13th, due to the growing number of COVID-19 cases.
A pre-trial motions hearing is now scheduled for January 15th. Jury selection is now set for February 12th, with the trial scheduled for February 15th. It is scheduled to last two weeks.
Also charged in the case is Prokopovitz’s girlfriend, Kathryn Friday, who is charged with perjury for allegedly lying to a John Doe hearing investigating the case. On Thursday, her sentencing was delayed to November 2nd.
James Prokopovitz was the last person to see his wife on April 25th, 2013. Investigators say Victoria was reported missing, but her purse, cell phone and ID were all at her home in Pittsfield.
