MINNEAPOLIS, MN (WTAQ) – In the first game after the Packers selected Utah State’s Jordan Love in last spring’s NFL Draft, Aaron Rodgers left little doubt who the starting QB of the team was.
The current face of the franchise went 32/44 for 364 yards and four touchdowns to no picks in a 43-34 win over Minnesota on Sunday.
Davante Adams found himself on the receiving end of two of those scoring throws as he finished the game with 156 yards receiving on 14 catches (17 targets). Marquez Valdes-Scantling added one touchdown on four receptions for 96 yards. Allen Lazard added a touchdown and 63 receiving yards on four catches.
Aaron Jones carried the majority of the work on the ground with 66 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries. Rogers had just one carry in the game for two yards.
Love didn’t see the field at all in his first professional game. Green Bay brought on veteran Tim Boyle to kneel out the game with under a minute to go after a Vikings touchdown and failed onside kick.
Mason Crosby was a perfect 5/5 on extra points and added two field goals of 31 and 43 yards.
Defensively the Packers were led by Christian Kirksey who recorded six solo tackles and six assists. Jaire Alexander added four solo tackles, one sack, and an interception. Krys Barnes recorded four tackles (two for loss).
Green Bay had come into Sunday’s game as a slight underdog according to most sportsbooks. The 77 point total far surpassed the over/under on the game, which was between 44 and 46 points depending on where you were placing your bets.
Sunday’s game was played in front of an empty US Bank Stadium due to COVID-19 restrictions in the Twin Cities. The Packers will also play their home opener behind closed doors next week against the Lions.
