Oct 08 (Field Level Media) – Leon Draisaitl had four assists to lead a huge second period in the Edmonton Oilers’ 5-2 road win over the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday.
Down 2-0 at the first intermission, Edmonton stormed back with five unanswered goals in the second frame. It was another strong offensive showing for the 3-0-1 Oilers, who have 22 goals in their first four games of the season.
Evan Bouchard had two goals and an assist, and Connor McDavid produced a goal and two assists. Bouchard leads the NHL with six goals, while McDavid tops the league in assists (nine) and points (12). Kasperi Kapanen and Vasily Podkolzin scored, and Devon Levi made 29 saves.
Beckett Sennecke scored two power-play goals for the Ducks, who fell short after winning their previous two games this season. Leo Carlsson had two assists. Lukas Dostal allowed five goals on 17 shots over two periods of action.
Jets 3, Avalanche 2
Kyle Connor scored twice, including the game-winner with a minute left in regulation, as Winnipeg rallied to beat visiting Colorado.
Cole Perfetti also tallied for the Jets, who have won three straight and have earned points in all four games. Winnipeg’s Mark Scheifele and Dylan Samberg posted two assists each while Stuart Skinner stopped 32 shots.
Jaden Schwartz and Fedor Svechkov finished with a goal and an assist each for the Avalanche, who lost for the first time in three games this season. Mackenzie Blackwood made 16 saves.
Capitals 5, Penguins 3
Tom Wilson had a goal and two assists to lead host Washington to a win over Pittsburgh.
It was the 76th regular-season meeting and 101st overall matchup of all-time goal leader Alex Ovechkin, 41, who announced on Monday this would be his final season, and Sidney Crosby, 39. Neither figured in the scoring. Ovechkin was playing his first game after his announcement.
Pierre-Luc Dubois added a goal and an assist and Anthony Beauvillier, Alex Tuch and Ryan Leonard scored for the Capitals in their home opener following a 1-1-0 road start. Bryan Rust, making his season debut after being activated from injured reserve, Tommy Novak and Nick Robertson got goals for the Penguins, who lost their second straight.
