(UW ATHLETICS) – The Wisconsin women’s hockey team will begin its season at No. 1 on both the USCHO and USA Hockey polls, the organizations announced this week.
The 2026 NCAA champions, Wisconsin split first place votes with No. 2 Ohio State in each poll, but ultimately came out on top with 293 points in the USCHO poll and 275 in USA Hockey’s.
Border rival Minnesota followed closely behind at third, with fellow WCHA teams Minnesota-Duluth (9) and Minnesota State (14 USCHO/13 USA Hockey) also finding a spot in the rankings.
This marks the 11th time in program history that Wisconsin has begun its season ranked first in the USCHO poll. UW was picked second in the WCHA Preseason Coaches Poll behind the Buckeyes.
The Badgers open up their season next week on Sept. 25 against St. Lawrence, who is receiving votes in each of the polls.
