GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Children at 10 transitional housing homes owned by Ecumenical Partnership for Housing (EPH) have new outdoor play areas to use.
EPH and Leadership Green Bay Team 4 partnered to create the playgrounds in the ‘Together We Play’ project. The groups held a ribbon cutting Friday at an EPH home on Jefferson Street.
“It’s really just such an incredible gift for the families living in these homes to be able to have spaces for their children to play right in their backyard while their families are working on self-sufficiency through our program,” said Ecumenical Partnership for Housing Executive Director Crystal DeCleene.
The homes were selected because in addition to lacking an outdoor play space, they are not within walking distance of a park. Leadership Green Bay Team 4 also found families in transitional housing typically have few toys, making it more important to them to provide something for kids to play with.
“We wanted to do something that would obviously give back to the community, but specifically to give back to kids,” said Lucas DeGayner, a Leadership Green Bay Team 4 member and Festival Foods Business Analyst. “We all had a strong preference that sports and play be part of that project.”
The home on Jefferson Street includes a playset, sandbox, and toys. According to DeGayner, other sites include basketball hoops and seating.
Other Leadership Green Bay projects for 2026 include creating a food pantry at Lincoln Elementary School, creating a mindfulness trail at Osprey Point in partnership with the Izaak Walton League of Brown County, and renovations at Amanda’s House to create an inviting, calming space for mothers and children. Leadership Green Bay is a program where business professionals work on team projects that make a difference in the community. It’s run through the Greater Green Bay Chamber.
