(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) FARGO, N.D. – The Green Bay women’s soccer team started the 2026 season with an emphatic 3-0 win over North Dakota State on the road Thursday night. Senah Hanes scored a brace to lead the Phoenix offense, while Laney Stark also got on the scoresheet.
“I’m extremely proud of our group tonight,” said head coach Matt Kagan. “We scored three great goals and defended very well. We are still in the process of growing this group and they are buying in to the process.”
Kagan continued, “we played 19 players tonight and we got great performances from the freshman who played their first collegiate match! We will recover and prepare for another tough road match on Sunday!”
HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute when Ava Nielsen found Hanes, who put the Phoenix up on the team’s first shot of the game. GB outshot NDSU 5-2 in the first half.
It didn’t take long for Hanes to double her tally and the Phoenix lead, scoring again in the 49th minute to make it 2-0. GB put the game officially out of reach in the 54th minute, when Laney Stark got on the scoresheet to make it 3-0.
GAME NOTES
- Green Bay received three yellow cards. Ava Nielsen, Jess Howard, and Laney Stark were booked
- Anna Scott secured a shutout with one save for the Phoenix, out of three total Bison shots.
- Green Bay scored two unassisted goals.
- Green Bay registered 11 shots, nine on goal.
- Green Bay had five corners to the Bisons’ one.
COMING UP
The Phoenix will take on North Dakota on Aug. 16 at noon before its home opener on Aug. 20 against South Dakota at 3 p.m.
