(WTAQ-WLUK) — The Wisconsin Commissioner of Insurance shared a list of tips Thursday for those impacted by storm damage in the Fox Valley.
The Office of the Commissioner of Insurance recommended the following for residents as they evaluate storm damage:
- Make a list of damaged items, including cracks in walls, damage to siding or shingles, spoiled food due to a long-term power outage, etc.
- Take photographs of the damage before you begin to clean up.
- Don’t throw out any damaged property without the claim adjuster’s agreement.
- Keep all receipts that document the cost of the repairs or the replacement of damaged items.
“Monday’s devastating storms produced high winds, tornadoes, and hail which caused significant property damage, particularly in the Eastern part of the state,” said Commissioner Houdek in a news release. “If you experienced any damage, it’s important to notify your insurance agent or company right away to begin the claim process.”
The Office of the Commissioner of Insurance reminds residents to file a complaint if they encounter issues with their insurance agent, adjuster, or company. That can be done over the phone by calling 1-800-236-8517 or online.
