Jessica Cox, the world’s first certificated armless pilot, recently visited Appleton International Airport and Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to showcase her latest endeavor: the “Impossible Airplane.”
Nearly 20 years after taking her very first flight to conquer her own fear of flying, Cox is currently putting the finishing touches on a custom, purpose-built aircraft that is about 90% complete. Unlike conventional airplanes, which Cox can fly despite significant physical challenges, the Impossible Airplane is engineered from scratch specifically to be flown with feet alone from the left command seat.
She hopes the aircraft will serve as a symbol of hope and empowerment for the more than 5 million Americans living with limb loss or limb difference.
