Well, it’s finally happening.
After years of just suggesting that Wisconsin drivers pay for the roads they destroy every winter, the state has officially announced that toll booths are coming to Interstate 41, stretching from Green Bay all the way down to Milwaukee.
The rates? Glad you asked.
- Passenger vehicles: $2.50 per plaza
- Semi trucks: $8.00 per plaza
- Anyone going the speed limit in the left lane: $50 flat fee, no exceptions, God bless
Governor Tony Evers was quoted as saying, “Look, we tried to fix the potholes. We really did.” He then reportedly stared out a window for a long time.
Local reactions have been… mixed. A man outside Kwik Trip in Little Chute said, and I quote, “They can’t do this.” A woman in De Pere said she’s “moving to Michigan.”
Anyway. Happy April Fools’ Day. The roads are still free. The potholes are still very much not.
