Fancy the American Quarter Horse just secured the ultimate title. On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, the brown mare officially celebrated her 38th birthday, a milestone that coincides with the 34th birthday of her lifelong owner, Paige Blumer. Having surpassed the typical 25-to-35-year lifespan for her breed, Fancy was officially verified by Guinness World Records as the oldest living horse in the world.
Fancy’s secret to longevity seems to be a mix of high-quality care and a healthy dose of “diva” attitude. Living on a retirement farm with her donkey “bodyguard,” Rosie, Fancy celebrated her big day with a special grain bowl topped with her age in numbers. Blumer, who has owned Fancy since she was eight years old, credits the record-breaking age to a strict diet, attentive vets, and the horse’s own strong-willed personality.
