A recent billboard in Chicago is sparking a massive debate about whether QR codes on the highway should be banned before they actually cause an accident!
The ad in question belongs to Guzman y Gomez, an Australian Mexican chain that’s been expanding in the U.S. and decided the best way to get people’s attention was a giant sign that just says “FREE BURRITO” with a massive QR code next to it. While the offer was totally legit, scanning it actually got you a coupon for a free meal, critics are pointing out the obvious problem: trying to focus your phone camera on a sign while going 70 mph!
The billboard has been up since mid-December, and luckily there haven’t been any reports of crashes, but the internet is divided. Some people think it’s just clever marketing, while others are calling for a total ban, arguing that “texting and driving” laws should definitely apply to “scanning and driving” for a burrito.
What do YOU think?
A Bucktown billboard offering free burritos through a QR code is drawing safety concerns over distracted driving, prompting a review request to CDOT as the restaurant says the ad should have already been removed. https://t.co/z34SeRFrda
