When a cat gets stuck in a tree, a lot of people still think, “Call the fire department!” But in Washington state, there’s a team that’s actually built for this: Canopy Cat Rescue.
Started by professional tree climbers Shaun Sears and Tom Otto, Canopy Cat Rescue exists for one purpose… climbing tall trees to bring terrified cats safely back to their humans. We’re talking big evergreens, crazy heights, and some very dramatic reunions.
How a Rescue Works
When someone calls Canopy Cat Rescue, the process starts with a conversation:
- How long has the cat been up there?
- Is it your yard or a neighbor’s?
- Is the cat friendly or skittish around strangers?

Based on those answers, Shaun and Tom figure out how urgent the situation is and the safest way to approach it. Truly terrified cats that just dashed up the tree a few minutes earlier might be given a bit of time to see if they can climb down on their own. But in bad weather, with indoor-only cats, or cats tangled in a harness or leash, they move fast.
If your looking for your next business venture (and you’re not afraid of heights or cat claws) here’s your idea to start in Northeast Wisconsin.
