BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Some county parks will be closed to non-hunters during the gun deer season.
The Brown County Parks Department says Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve and the Fort Howard Paper Foundation Wildlife Area trails and grounds will be closed to the general public. Only those with valid county hunting permits will be allowed to enter.
The Interpretive Center at Barkhausen will remain open to the public during regular hours, however.
All trails at the Reforestation Camp will be closed since hunting is allowed in designated areas of the property.
At Lily Lake Park, picnic grounds and the boat launch will remain open, but visitors are cautioned that hunting is allowed in designated areas of the property.
The Vande Hei Property will be open only to hunters.
While hunting is prohibited on the Fox River and Mountain-Bay state trails, parks officials warn that hunting may be taking place on some adjacent properties.
Those using parks or trails in areas that are open to hunting are advised to wear blaze orange.
The gun deer season runs from Nov. 22-30.
