Jeremy Stoll (Fond du Lac Co. Jail)
FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Fond du Lac man was convicted for selling drugs mixed with fentanyl to another man who overdosed and died.
Jeremy Stoll, 42, pleaded no contest to first degree reckless homicide Thursday. He will return to court June 2 for sentencing.
According to the criminal complaint, on June 11, 2022, the victim’s father called 911 after finding his son unconscious inside a home in the town of Lamartine.
The victim, Russell Barton, 37, was deceased. Deputies found evidence of a drug overdose near his body.
An autopsy determined Barton had fentanyl, cocaine, meth, amphetamine and buprenorphine in his system.
A search of messages in Barton’s phone found he purchased drugs from Stoll. According to the criminal complaint, Stoll had indicated the heroin he had was strong and at first didn’t want to sell it to Barton but ended up meeting Barton and making a sale anyway.
After Barton’s body was found, Stoll sent a message to Barton’s phone, “wya,” shorthand slang for “where you at?”
Based on other messages in Stoll’s phone, authorities say Stoll knowingly sold drugs he knew were cut with fentanyl and were dangerous.
