Uncle O’Grimacey’s return is part of a bigger Shamrock Shake promotion, with McDonald’s pledging to donate 25 cents for every Shamrock Shake sold from February 10 to March 23 to RMHC. The goal is to raise $5 million to help families stay close together at RMHC programs, with each donation providing 50,000 overnight stays.
And if you’re a fan of Uncle O’s quirky charm, McDonald’s has you covered—Uncle O-themed merch like T-shirts, baseball caps, and crewnecks are available for preorder. Plus, McDonald’s will donate additional proceeds from the merch to RMHC.
Uncle O’Grimacey isn’t your average mascot. Like his purple nephew, Grimace, he’s a large, mysterious creature from Sham Rock, Ireland, known for delivering Shamrock Shakes around McDonaldland each St. Patrick’s Day. He debuted in 1975, but after a decade in the spotlight, he vanished along with many other McDonaldland characters in the ’80s.
Will Uncle O stick around for good this time? We’ll see. For now, he’s back just in time for Shamrock Season, and he’s here to spread some minty cheer—and raise funds for a great cause—until March 23. After that, it’s back to his quiet life in Sham Rock, Ireland!
