MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Manitowoc police are investigating the theft of a catalytic convertor on a truck owned by a non-profit that serves youth and adults with disabilities.
Ascend Services Inc. says in early December, thieves cut off the catalytic convertor off its main production box truck, an intricate part of its workforce solutions program.
Until the vehicle is fixed, the organization is relying on its second, much older truck.
The estimates for fixing the vehicle range from $11,000 to $16,000. When the thieves cut off the convertor, they did quite a bit of damage to the truck, so that is why the cost is so high.
“We have insurance that will cover the repair costs, but it doesn’t take into consideration all the other associated costs of being without that vehicle for an extended time,” said executive director, Deanna Genske.
Ascend has been reviewing the video footage with the hope of catching the thieves. If anyone has any information, contact the Manitowoc Police Department.
The estimates for fixing the vehicle range from $11,000 to $16,000. When the thieves cut off the convertor, they also did quite a bit of damage to the truck.
“We are hoping to have repairs finished in January, but are not sure of the exact timeframe,” Genske said. “I think that the people who commit these crimes don’t realize the impact that they have on real people’s lives.” Our clients perform work every day for area businesses who depend on us, and we take pride in being on time with our deliveries. We ask for patience and understanding during this time.”
