OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — In the wake of UW-Oshkosh’s announcement of mass layoffs, the Fox Valley Workforce Development Board (FVWDB) is holding a private job fair for affected employees.
FVWDB says it launched “rapid response” outreach and transition efforts after UWO gave layoff notices to 140 workers — 1 out of every 6 staff members — on Oct. 16. Layoffs will take effect Jan. 20.
A private job fair open to impacted UWO employees only will be held Nov. 13 from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Oshkosh Convention Center, located at 2 N. Main Street.
Additional rapid response efforts by FVWDB include:
- Communicating with impacted employees
- Discussion of retraining at a local technical college or other training site
- Job search benefits under the Workforce Opportunity and Investment Act (WIOA)
- Resume updating sessions and other skills-building programs
- Skills and interest assessments
Employers interested in meeting with UWO workers at the job fair must register online, at no cost.
Any workers who have been laid-off by their employer are encouraged to call FVWDB at (920) 997-3272 or complete the informational form available on its website.
All services for laid-off workers are free and covered by the U.S. Department of Labor’s WIOA funds, and the Dislocated Worker program is available to anyone who has been or is soon to be laid off from any employer.
