OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A building on the UW-Oshkosh campus is showing off its renovations.
A ribbon-cutting and rededication of the Clow Academic Complex at 845 Algoma Blvd. in Oshkosh was held Thursday after the completion of a $27 million renovation project.
Previously known as the Nursing and Education Building, the complex is now home to the school’s College of Nursing, the College of Education and Human Services and two faculty towers.
“Together, these colleges provide state-of-the-art collaborative learning environments that demonstrate unique, high-impact features and will enrich the educational opportunities for our students today and well into the future,” said College of Education and Human Services Dean Linda Haling.
University of Wisconsin System President Jay Rothman said, “In this one academic center, we are together responding to so much of what Wisconsin really needs. Future nurses and healthcare workers. Future K-12 teachers and educational administrators. Future mental health professionals, counselors and other human services practitioners. All of that talent is being prepared and grown in one place.”
Work on the more than 48,000 square-foot space began in spring of 2022.
The upgrades feature simulation labs modeled after elementary school classrooms.
Improvements include a room dedicated to literacy so teacher candidates can observe, through one-way glass, a live one-on-one session with an experienced classroom teacher and a young reader.
Meanwhile, the counseling and human services department’s new practicum laboratory is modeled after a clinic and enhances instruction through real-time live supervision. Students can view their recorded sessions and assess their skills directly in the video.
The project impacted areas from the basement to the sixth floor and includes new lecture halls and classrooms with new flooring, walls and windows, as well as a new roof.
There are also electrical, mechanical and technical upgrades throughout the building.
