APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An Appleton park honoring a fallen firefighter is getting an upgrade.
City leaders and the community gathered at Lundgaard Park on Lightning Drive Friday for groundbreaking ceremony.
In May of 2020, the park was dedicated to Mitchell Lundgaard, a 14-year veteran of the Appleton Fire Department, who was shot and killed while responding to a medical call at the Valley Transit Center in May of 2019.
Park design planning and public input began in 2021 where various playground amenities and other components such as water features and winter activities were ranked to come up with the final design.
