OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Oshkosh community and leaders from the Oshkosh Area School District (OASD) came together on Tuesday to celebrate the groundbreaking of the district’s new elementary school.
Menominee Elementary School is being constructed at 915 Hazel Street, where the former Webster Stanley Elementary and Middle School building stood. It was demolished in June.
According to OASD, Menominee Elementary is a component of the first phase of the district’s “long-range facilities plan” approved by voters in a 2020 referendum.
The district says these updates prioritize “modern schools that are more efficient, effective, and equitable for the community.”
“It’s important to remember why we’re all here and why this work matters. We’re here because our kids matter and they deserve the very best,” OASD Superintendent Bryan Davis said at the groundbreaking ceremony. “We know no building can replace what our educators and our staff bring, but the right building can amplify what happens in our schools.”
Menominee Elementary will become home to students who attended Webster Stanley Elementary, as well as kids currently enrolled at Merrill and Washington Elementary schools. It is slated to open for the 2024-25 school year.
Middle schoolers from Merrill and Webster Stanley will be attending OASD’s new Vel Phillips Middle School, which is opening this fall for the start of the 2023-24 school year.
