1. Bubble gum was invented in Philadelphia 95 years ago . . . by a 23-year-old candy accountant named Walter Diemer. He was messing around in the factory, when he created a mixture that allowed him to blow a bubble, pop it, AND clean up the mess fairly easily. It was a gross gray color, so he dyed it pink.
2. Ryan Gosling gained 60 pounds to star in “The Lovely Bones”. But when he showed up on set, it turns out Peter Jackson WASN’T picturing an overweight lead. So Gosling was fired and Mark Wahlberg was brought in.
3. The Nintendo character Kirby is named after an attorney named John Kirby . . . who successfully defended Nintendo in court when they were sued because Universal said Donkey Kong was a rip-off of King Kong.
4. The first “for dummies” book was “Parenting for Dummies” in 1995. Now the series has around 2,500 titles and more than 200 million copies in print.
