HORTONVILLE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A 24-year-old Hortonville man who pled guilty in May to distribution of child pornography will spend five years behind bars.
During an online investigation of a popular peer-to-peer file sharing platform conducted by the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, Colton H. Nelson was identified as engaging in the receipt and distribution of images and videos containing child sexual abuse material.
When a search warrant was executed at Nelson’s residence, officials recovered more than 7,000 videos and images that depicted child pornography.
Nelson lived in Menasha at the time of his arrest.
Senior United States District Court Judge William C. Griesbach said that the severity of Nelson’s offense necessitated a sentence that would punish Nelson and dissuade him from partaking in similar conduct in the future.
Along with his 60-month prison sentence, Nelson will spend five years on supervised release. He will also be required to register as a sex offender and pay a $5,000 special assessment.
